Client CPU hits 100% when Domino LDAP is shut down while using Notes IM

Technote Number: 1236068

Problem:
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# VROI6KGM6Y, and was
fixed in Notes 6.5.6.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.6 MR fix list (available at
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

Instant Messaging
SPR# VROI6KGM6Y - Certain rare combinations of user actions can put the Notes
client in a state where it sends a continuos stream of name resolve requests,
potentially enough requests rapidly enough to overwhelm the ST server and cause
it to crash.

The problem occurs ONLY when the LDAP server has been shut down and restarted.
That is, if there is an outage of LDAP and the LDAP server is brought up, IM
users connecting to the IM client see the CPU usage hit 100%. To resolve the
issue the Sametime server needs to be restarted.

The issue is related to awareness in the IM client and when there is a
disconnect and reconnect to the LDAP directory. When you reconnect all
functionality works; the only issue is the high CPU usage.

A cumulative client hotfix (CCH) is also available for Notes Client releases
6.5.4 and 6.5.5 that fixes the issue reported in SPR# VROI6KGM6Y. Since
hotfixes do not receive the extensive testing that maintenance releases and fix
packs do, customers are encouraged to implement workarounds or deploy a release
containing the fix. However, if workarounds are not possible or applicable and
you still need a fix, contact IBM Technical Support to request the CCH
containing the fix for this issue.
